Dinyar S. Devitre's career with Altria Group, Inc. began in 1970 at Godfrey Phillips India, Ltd., an affiliate of Philip Morris International (PMI) in Bombay, India. Shortly thereafter, he was assigned to Melbourne, Australia, where he served as Marketing Services Manager, Asia Pacific. In 1974, Mr. Devitre was transferred to New York and appointed PMI's Regional Coordinator, Asia/Canada. Two years later, he returned to Godfrey Phillips India, Ltd., as General Manager and was subsequently appointed Managing Director. In 1980, Mr. Devitre was appointed Regional Director, PMI Asia, based in Hong Kong, and a year later was appointed a Vice President. In 1984, he was named President, PMI Asia.
Mr. Devitre returned to New York in 1990, where he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, PMI. In September 1992, Mr. Devitre was named Executive Vice President, PMI, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Philip Morris K.K., based in Tokyo, Japan. Three years later, he was appointed Senior Vice President, Corporate Planning, Philip Morris Companies, Inc. From 1998 to 2001, Mr. Devitre served as Executive Vice President of Citibank in Europe. He returned to Altria Group, Inc. in March 2002 when he was appointed to his current position.
Born in Jamshedpur, India, Mr. Devitre earned a B.A. degree at St. Joseph's College in Darjeeling, India, and an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad.
Mr. Devitre serves on the Board of Western Union Company. On May 16, 2007, Mr. Devitre joined the Board of SABMiller as a non-executive director and a member of the audit committee. He is also a Trustee of Lincoln Center Inc., the Asia Society and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
